ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a visual artist shaped by the marginalized narratives of the communities I come from. Born in New York to a mother with southern roots and a father of Jamaican descent, my work is deeply informed by history and the multifaceted spirit of the African diaspora. Anchored in the traditions of drawing and painting, my practice chronicles the rich stories embedded in the everyday lives of my subjects.
Drawing from old family photographs, my own documentation, oral histories, audio recordings, and collected objects, I create works that serve as both personal and communal archives. These sources allow me to offer an intimate lens into the people and traditions that have defined my community, bridging memory, heritage, and lived experience.
In this spirit of visual documentation, I move through the world as an artist, archivist, historian, and storyteller. At its core, my practice seeks to illuminate the richness, resilience, and complexity of African American life.
